Outdoor activities

The classic activity in The Lake District is walking, but there are so many other things you can do, whether you are experienced in the outdoor or want to try it for the first time.

Eden Outdoor Adventures offers a wide range of activites - snowwalking, ghyll scrambling, canoeing, Blue Badge guided walks and more - and Ian and Melanie are happy to tailor the activities to your level and ability. Combinations are also possible, i.e. canoe across Ullswater, go for a Blue Badge guided walk and then end up Ghyll Scrambling. Or have a BBQ on a beach, and then canoe back in the moonlight... very atmospheric and romantic!

  • BBQ
  • Canoeing

  • On river Derwent

  • Ghyll scrambling
  • Snow shoeing on High Street
  • Winter Walking, Helvellyn

Melanie and Ian offer 5% discount to our guests, so if you decide to arrange for an activity let them know you are staying here at Lowthwaite and take advantage of the offer.

Rookin House; there is a lot to do here. They organise horseriding in the beautiful landscape or a range of activities like reverse steering, archery, and quad bike treks.

Something for everybody

Reach Beyond Adventures; excellent especially for Bushcraft, Ross is great at teaching you all kind of weird and wonderful things.

Keswick Climbing Wall; the name says it all. A great place to try indoor climbing, either as a first timer or just because it rains.

Go Ape; go to Whinlatter Forest and "swing" in the trees!

CycleWise; get instructions in mountain biking and try the trails in Whinlatter, or if you already are experienced just rent a bike and try it all.
